Samsung talks about its new AI-powered home assistant with a screen that moves... This is the Luna Project.
Since announcing its robotic pet, Bali, at CES 2020, Samsung has stuck to its plan to put a personal assistant that can talk to people in every home. But the launch of this device has been put off indefinitely because of worries about its high price and slow development, even though there have been some problems.
Bloomberg said that despite this setback, Bally will not be sold to consumers but will instead be used as a platform for indoor innovation, with the goal of helping to shape the future of smart home devices. Based on this approach, Samsung unveiled Project Luna, a prototype AI-powered home assistant.
This innovation is part of the range of products and concepts Samsung showcased at Milan Design Week 2026, where it held an exhibition titled "Design is an Act of Love." At this exhibition, the South Korean company dedicated a section to "Intelligence in Cooking," where it unveiled the Project Luna concept.
What is Project Luna, and what is its purpose?
Project Luna is a prototype for an AI-powered smart home assistant. It features a circular screen that moves towards users to meet their needs and offers a wide range of functions, from playing music and alerting users to incoming calls to controlling room lighting.
This device can be placed on any surface, is designed to stay firmly in place, acts as a smart control center, features a rotating base, responds to voice commands, displays information, and integrates with other smart home devices. According to Digital Trends, it is "designed to be more user-friendly than traditional robots, blending into daily routines rather than disrupting them."
Regarding its availability, "Samsung has not yet announced a release date," explaining that it is still just a prototype and that it is unknown whether it will be commercially released in the future.
